Hey sleepy head! You look like you could use some more sleep! Did you know that getting adequate sleep is one of THE most effective ways to save your hair? Sleep is one of your body’s most efficient weapons. When you’re getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night, your body is fully restored which means your cortisol levels are normal, your immune system is fortified and your inflammatory markers are down! If you’re having trouble getting 7-8 hours per night, you may want to consider setting yourself up for a good night’s sleep by adopting one or more of these scientifically proven sleep hygiene techniques:
- Get indirect sunlight the first ten minutes of each day (this sets your circadian rhythm)
- Avoid drinking caffeine after 12pm (caffeine has a half-life of 8 hours!)
- Exercise/Movement daily
- Dim your house lights in the evening
- Avoid using screens (phone, tablets, computers) and hour before bedtime
- Take a hot shower or sauna before going to bed
- Make sure the thermostat is set to <68F in your bedroom when you go to sleep
